Art and the Anthropocene

Art and the Anthropocene a series of new works (some quite small painting) exploring big themes about climate catastrophy.

With a nod to Pierre Bonnard’s ‘perfect’ domestic (teatime gingham cloth) and decorative interiors, the series introduces the crocodile ‘croc’ as a metaphor for the uncertainties surrounding environmental degradation and ecological devastation.

I am asking the viewer to look in on the activity around the crocodile.

I am saying to the audience…

'don’t look away' - words from a protest banner experienced by me in Berlin 2019,

'can’t stop thinking about it’ - words by Yoshitomo Nara, a contemporary and prominant Japanese artist,

and asking the question ‘what the hell is going on’…
